The Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) system quantifies and combines the components of tree failure risk. It is possible to calculate with some accuracy the usage of vehicular and pedestrian targets upon which trees could fail.

The Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) system provides a structured and proportionate method of assessing the risk of harm from tree failure. Rather than considering the condition of a tree in isolation, QTRA takes account of what the tree or branch could strike — the target — together with the size of the part concerned and the probability of failure.

The resulting risk is expressed numerically, providing tree owners and managers with clear, evidence-based information to support proportionate management decisions.
